Message from Coach Flynn

I hope everyone is safe and enjoying the holiday season.  As you might be aware, this years’ wrestling season will be a bit different than the past.  Please read the entire email as it will provide you with information for what the upcoming season will look like, as of today.  However, it is always subject to change based on any new executive orders from the Governor.

The wrestling program and practices will follow executive guidelines regarding the number of people allowed inside the facility.  Only wrestlers and coaches will be allowed inside the facility after completing the health checklist prior to arrival and temperature checks onsite (these are subject to change based on guidelines).  All parents will need to drop off wrestlers and/or wait in the parking lot until practice ends.

Registration is OPEN, so feel free to register ASAP.  Registration fees will be deferred until our first live practice.  If interested, please register as this will help us gauge an idea of the interest level to determine practice schedules.

Facility update -

We have located an outside facility (MMA space) to host practices during the week.  Practices will be held on Saturday afternoons and Sundays (times to be determined) and will be starting Saturday, January 16th.  This may change if the Governor extends the current executive order regarding a PAUSE to all Winter Sports which is set to end Jan 2nd.

Match and League update -

Competitive Division:  As of now, several of the leagues we participate in have advised that they are following the NJSIAA ruling, governing body for high school sports in the state.  This ruling will push wrestling competition to start in March and run through April 24th.  Currently, all competition will be limited to two teams (subject to change).  There is uncertainty regarding end of the season individual or team tournaments and will be addressed as the date gets closer.

Novice Division: As of now, there has not been a decision made regarding the KOM Jamborees.  The likelihood of holding these types of events, while following state guidelines, is very unlikely due to the number of wrestlers and coaches at these indoor events.  Currently, this division will be solely a clinic where there are practices only.

Virtual Trainings -

This will be a great opportunity for the wrestlers to participate in some at home training until the season/practices begin.  There will be no prior experience needed and these trainings will be able to be conducted individually (no wrestling partner needed).  The training videos will be sent only to those who have registered.  I will begin to post weekly virtual trainings starting Jan 2nd.

As we all have become accustomed to with sports, things are very fluid and can change immediately.  As I previously mentioned, registration fees will be collected as soon as we begin our first live practice.  If we begin the season and at any point the season is canceled due to the Governor’s Executive Order, we will refund accordingly (it will be prorated based on the duration of the season completed).  If a refund of any kind is warranted due to a shut down of the season, they will be made and sent out by check

Thank you all for your patience during these uncertain times and hope to see you safely on the wrestling mats this year.

Enjoy the holidays and happy New Year.

Bryan Flynn
